About our cause
Dawlish Warren Life Saving Club is a registered charity (1041428) that operates at Dawlish Warren beach in South Devon. First formed in 1966, we are a small but longstanding club that provides an ideal setting for likeminded individuals to learn new skills, train, patrol the beach, get involved in lifesaving sport, teach others or just a place by the beach to socially enjoy.
DWLSC is Affiliated with a governing body; The Royal Life Saving Society (RLSS).
Our charitable objectives include:
·To teach child members ages 8-16 basic open water skills, increase their awareness of dangers and build confidence within the beach environment in a fun, supportive, safe manner.
·To teach members aged 16+ advanced open water skills and first aid skills needed to undertake internationally recognized lifeguard qualifications including the National Vocational Beach Lifeguard Qualification (NVBLQ).
·To raise public awareness of beach safety.
·To lifeguard Dawlish Warren beach throughout the summer independently, and alongside the Royal National Lifeboat Institute (RNLI) lifeguards.
·Encourage participation of lifesaving sport and support good sportsmanship above all.
·Provide a friendly, open, safe welcoming atmosphere within the club.
·To be intrinsic and active part of the local community, supporting it as much as possible.
Rookie Lifeguard Programme
Ages 7-15:
-Children who join the club can participate in the RLSS UK’s Rookie Lifeguard program which gives your child the skills they need to be confident in the sea, teaching children to swim and enjoy the water safely both on the shore or deeper water.
-Included into the program are lessons in valuable survival, rescue and sports skills…all delivered in an exciting way that will get children involved and motivated. The scheme includes Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards from basic sea skills right through to rescue techniques, And your Child will have the opportunity to compete in Lifesaving Sport.
It’s a great way for parents to interact with their children so why not join too and help out?
If you’re interested in getting your child involved, please contact the club (see below).

Senior Training and National Vocational Beach Lifeguard Qualification.
DWLSC is a registered training facility of the National Vocational Beach Lifeguard Qualification or NVBLQ which is the new national standard for beach lifeguarding created in partnership with the RLSS, RNLI, ASA, and SLS Wales.
Stalwart members can go on to be trained to use our Arancia inshore rescue boat.
Our training is supplied free of charge to active members who participate in club fundraising activities and patrols for 1 year or 25 consecutive activities, it is held subject to demand of candidates.
Many other courses are available to suit all ages and abilities
Patrolling
All trained senior members will be asked to Participate in active patrols of Dawlish warren beach from a minimum of 11am-3pm on Sundays throughout the season. A perfect opportunity to put learnt skills in to practice! For qualified members, this is put into a router, unqualified will be encouraged to assist to learn on the job.
fundraising
DWLSC is completely self-funded and relies on donations, grants, and local support to survive.
We carry out charity fundraising events such as car washes, sponsored activities and participation in local events.
Our main fundraising activity is our ‘Public Demonstration of Lifesaving’ throughout the summer, every Wednesday evening at 7.45 pm. This is great fun, and gets everyone together to put on a show for the public, and counts towards those essential training hours.
Opportunities
Many of our members go on to work in interesting career roles because of skills developed through Lifesaving e.g.:
Firemen, Policemen/staff, Navy, Army, Doctors, Paramedic and of course, Beach lifeguards
Many of our members were games makers in London 2012!

It has a fully equipped kitchen, large central training area with ample storage, two changing rooms with hot showers.
